AA's

You don't have to rely on CR123's, a camera battery (available at WalMart, but pricey!), to power your lights, guys.  If you're buying online, they're a great battery, last forever, long runtimes, don't heat up, Lithium Ion cells are available to increase runtimes, and aren't too expensive, but if you only need a handful, consider some AA lights.

You can grab the batteries out of your remote, out of an RC car, out of XBox controllers - pretty much anything that's available.  With current LED technology, it's possible to get incredible outputs and long runtimes on a single AA battery, which allows the lights to be nice and small, and easily stashed in your back pocket, alongside your wallet.

Google is your friend, but here's a few lights to consider:

The first three are Fenix LD10's, with the furthest left being the newest generation, followed by two 4Sevens Quark lights, and a Nitecore.

All are relatively inexpensive ($50US to $70US), run on a single AA, have Hi and Lo output modes, and are brighter than most of you would ever require.

Check them out. :)

  1. No lanterns yet, I shall keep checking ;) Nice selection though, really rugged bastards, aren't they?

  2. Janus,

I actually have very little experience with lanterns, LED or otherwise, outside of Colemen kerosene lanterns. But, that's an area I could certainly look into a little bit to provide you with some info. :)

  4. I just ordered an LD10 myself. It hasn't showed up yet but I'm really excited! Should I be using NiMH rechargeables or alkaline AA's?

  5. I think I have one of those somewhere. Reliable and good to have if you ever lose power.

  6. Thanks brovah, I'm going to break into a cave in a couple months on my roadtrip, and I'll need a solid, preferably small lantern. Wrist mounted lights too, stuff like that :)

  10. it is most practial to have the most common bateries, recharchable batteries always bring some problems when you dont use them often and if you have too much charging cycles..

  26. If they became cheaper than 50 bucks, I might bite, but right now it's better to be money conscious now instead of later... So I'd be more likely to buy the bargain flashlights until I'm better financially. I suppose this would be good to know in the future however.

  27. Are Maglite's any good compared to these?

  32. Hey Michael, sorry I didn't see your question until now. Minecraft will run for Windows, Linux/Other AND Mac OSX, you can download the zip for it and extract it. ALSO it IS web based, you can play all you want on the browser. No need for Bootcamp. Hope you get into it, it's very addicting and a ton of fun. If you have any problems or any questions just let me know, i'll answer them in the Let's Play and/or post a comment.
